100 titles for total sales of nearly 80,000,000 copies. Chicken Soup for the Soul is the all-time bestseller with 8,056,303 copies, followed by Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul (6,020,521 copies), Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul (5,026,236 copies), Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul (4,496,520 copies). Series effect analysis
The success of the series in the USA and across the world lies in the very fact that it is a series which results in “enduring performance” that keeps most titles in constant demand without regard to the year of publication. New titles that are introduced do not simply replace earlier titles which on the contrary keep selling year after year.
This is clearly illustrated by the following tables and analysises:

The "selling" quality of the original title "Chicken Soup for the Soul" is that it is not descriptive but rather intriguing. This title attracts the eye and questions the prospective buyer, and incites him or her to open a book and find out what it is all about. More descriptive and/or sophisticated titles have been tried but with less success except maybe "A Balm for the Soul" in Poland and Holland. A big exception is "Become 'Rich' and Happy" in Indonesia. A very good substitute has been used in South America "Hot Chocolate for the Soul".
