ANGLAID
A Language Irremediably Devoted to Imperialism and Ethnocentrism
by Michel Brûlé

ÉDITIONS MICHEL BRÛLÉ -  172pp - 6x9in. - April 2009 - Essay (French)

Life in society comprises relations among individuals that are characterized by the relationship between each individual describing himself or herself as “I” with another person. In English however, the “I” is abnormally magnified whereas the other person represented by “you” is diminished.  Is it possible that English and United States imperialism can be explained by the fact that the “I” is abnormally large and that the designation for the other is diminished?

People from England and the United States listen to their music only, read their books only, and watch their films only.  This unique phenomenon characterized by an absence of openness must stem from something - the omnipotent “I”. If the ultimate goal is to build a world in a manner that is fairer and more fraternal, then it cannot be achieved if the international language used to do so is English, which is essentially segregationist.
