Frankfurt Book Fair 2014 : Finland is the Guest of Honour

The Frankfurt International Book Fair (8-12 October 2014) is the most important book fair in the world. There are a large variety of exhibitors. There are publishers, agents, authors and booksellers. The fair is a source of acquisition and sale, as it is the main annual opportunity translation rights trade. This year, the Guest of Honour is Finland. The book market is large in Finland. Publishers present their latest titles and the local bestsellers. (More information here.) Our colleague Anabelle Assaf proposes three Scandinavian titles in co-operation with Agentur Literatur. She also promote a selection of titles from a variety of represented publishers and agencies, like Adams Media, Susan Schulman Agency and HCI. The agents and their work Anabelle is focussing on the France market and has prepared titles from the lists of represented clients. She covers this year a broader range of titles, both fiction and non-fiction. The best books will interest publishers. The important is to have good reviews, good sales and have received good prizes and awards of course. It’s the theme of the Frankfurt Book Fair : Negotiations, new deals and potential partnerships. Agents work under pressure. It’s the name of the game. They receive the publishers lists and details on title up to the very last minute. We then get ready to go to the front line.  S. Frankfurt Book Fair  is always a brilliant opportunity for our agency to reach out and connect with thousands of international publishers and of course, our own vast network of corresponding agents who gather there from all parts of the world. 2013 was no exception and our team spent 5 days in the hustle and bustle of the fair grounds with the classic 30 minute back-to-back meeting schedules. This year our large stand was adjoined to both HCI and Chicken Soup for the Soul; two of our partners. Our Rights Guide for the fair was circulated widely and the titles of our partners were displayed with pride on our stand. The great visibility of our stand, afforded by its location at the end of a row, directly opposite a café and seating area, meant lot’s of footfall and interaction. For pictures of our stand, please check out our Facebook. We were also quite active on social media during the fair and you can retrace our activities via the hashtag #fbm13. We made sure to attend the Rights Directors Meeting, TV and Film Rights: New Opportunities for Agents, Spotlight on India: Publishing Trends and The Marketplace and Self Publishing Ignite Event. This year saw a greater digital presence at the fair, which represents the overall changes that are taking place in the publishing industry worldwide. We’re following these developements very closely. Read more >> Other info Partners who participated in this year’s fair For follow-ups and interest Services for acquiring...

The Frankfurt Book Fair

From the 9th to the 13th October 2013, the largest annual book fair will take place in Frankfurt, Germany. The Frankfurt Book Fair is a meeting place for industry experts and the most important marketplace for books, media, rights and licences worldwide. In general, the fair gives publishers, and companies from various other strands of the publishing industry, the opportunity to exhibit their books on stands and gain mass exposure for their titles, while individual professionals can rent meeting spaces in the Literary Agents and Scouts Centre. Montréal-Contacts @ Frankfurt Book Fair We find it particularly indispensable as it facilitates international and cross-industry rights and licensing deals for content, i.e. the acquisition of titles for translation. For more details on our involvement in this year’s fair and how you can get involved: For visiting publishers, and as I have experienced in previous years, the fair demands a lot of energy. Every year, we schedule 30 minute meetings from 9am to 6pm each day. Its spread out over a vast area, therefore, it’s advisable to plan and schedule meetings according to your location at all times, but you still end up running around like a mad-hatter! We make sure to book our stand and accommodation in Frankfurt from one year to the next. During the fair, the price of a hotel room can cost three times its normal price. A popular alternative for accommodation, when working with a smaller budget, is Air BnB, which allows you to rent a private house usually not too far from the fair.   Some other nuggets of information… In 2012, 7, 307 companies from 97 countries exhibited...

A Busy Spring 2013

The London Book Fair is becoming thee global marketplace for the negotiation of rights and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels. London It is one of our most important annual events, allowing us to network with all of our agents and to present to them, our latest titles and most recent representations. Our strong presence at this year’s London Book Fair, that took place in April, meant that we were able to showcase and promote numerous publishers and their catalogues at our stand to thousands of professionals who were in attendance at the Fair. It was an absolute pleasure for us to be able to recommend and promote a variety of titles from the publishers we represent, some of which were making their international debut: Bayard Canada  *   Cape Breton University Press Health Communications  *   Les Éditions Catherine Thabet Humanics Publishing   *   Isabelle Quentin Éditeur   *  LB Media Concept Les Éditions Au Carré     *  Les Éditions Cardinal  *  Les Éditions JCL Les Éditions Octave   *   Louise Courteau Éditrice The London Book Fair and The Korean Publishers Association have announced Korea as the market focus for 2014. Paris After a successful few days at the fair and a wonderful stay in London, we took a detour by Paris where we met with a group of local publishers in order to exhibit some new and exciting North American titles in response to the ever-growing demand. We actually managed to meet with 36 different publishers and their different departments...
